A new innovation in the City Convenience Store portfolio is the development of City Supermarkets. In this model the desirable qualities of a City Convenience Store have been expanded to provide a Supermarket style operation for our customers. The need for such a development was two-fold. In many areas where a Convenience Store would be an ideal proposition, leasing opportunities meant the floor space was too large for a traditional Convenience Store. Not wanting to limit the opportunity, the City Supermarket concept was born.
Sites were reconfigured as a small supermarket option. Often with subleased areas to other highly desirable tenants or as a City Convenience Supermarket in its own right. Typically, the City Supermarket is located in higher residential populated areas. The City Supermarket incorporates an extended range of grocery items, as well as fresh fruit, vegetables, meats and poultry.
A significant different in the supermarket concept also includes reduced margins on produce sold in line with retail benchmarks for supermarkets. The premise being less margins means more goods sold and also that more goods must be available for sale, hence the increase in product line and hard line pricing.
With the buying power of over 180 City Convenience Stores in the portfolio, City Supermarkets can provide products to its customers at a competitive price. We incorporate both major national suppliers as well as support local producers in the products on offer. Our range in offer caters for a variety of budgets with all the convenience offered by the City Convenience Store model.
